If current predictions hold true, it looks as though there might be fine weather for the Friends of the Namekagon Barrens Wildlife Area (FNBWA) Annual Meeting: 63 degrees and partly cloudy. Miraculous! So keep an eye on the forecast, pack a water bottle, and dress accordingly - we plan to spend the entire morning in the field.

  • 7:30-8:00 am     Coffee & refreshments at the clubhouse

  • 8:00-10:00 am   Birding with Bruce DeLong

  • 10:00-Noon        Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Barrens at our outdoor membership meeting of FNBWA followed by Circle tours of the property                              by Nancy Christel

  • Noon                 Lunch at the clubhouse with Raffle drawing

The raffle will include a large, framed, sharp-tailed grouse print by the renowned Wisconsin Artist, Owen Gromme (1896-1991). Owen Gromme was known as the Dean of U.S. Wildlife Artists, and is recognized as one of the best wildlife artists of all time. He served as the wildlife curator for the Milwaukee Public Museum , and was the master artist at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau . He used his fame to promote conservation including the protection of Horicon Marsh and the establishment of the International Crane Foundation. He was one of the advocates for a regulated waterfowl season with bag limits and helped raise millions of dollars for conservation. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame in 1994.

Wildlife art collectors have always cherished art work by Owen Gromme. Only attendees at the May 17, meeting can purchase raffle tickets to own one of his great works of art. Additional prizes will be included in the raffle.
