STOP 9: MOTORIZED RECREATION
The light, sandy soils found in this region of the state can easily be damaged by off-road running of motorized vehicles. However, motorized recreation is very popular with the public and opportunities abound on designated trails on surrounding county forests. Maps of local trails can generally be found in many of the nearby businesses. If snowmobiling or ATVing is your interest, obtain one of these maps and enjoy riding one the many miles of maintained trails.
Please note that while the wildlife area appears transected by numerous roads, some are closed to public motorized travel. The DNR access roads were originally constructed as firebreaks for prescribed burning and are easily eroded. Also, a few roads are seasonally closed to protect breeding sharp-tailed grouse.
